I've been doing these Soundtracks for a while but for one reason or another I hadn't done a proper Q4 before: this is the first year on which I've been consistent about it, pushing myself to keep on listening to new music, moving forward, letting go of the past. Things are usually easier earlier in the year, like most New Year's resolutions that eventually fade away: having kept at it feels like a victory.
I want to thank Jonathan and Cloudy from the IRP for crafting an incredibly important part of the Soundtrack of my 2015. Nietzsche said Without music, life would be a mistake, and you two helped me not to make it.
Being happy is a decision made day to day, hour to hour. Life can still surprise you - the love of your life might come walking right when you felt like there was nothing to look forward to, the next song on the playlist can touch your soul in a way no song had ever been able to before. Maybe one of these does the trick for you. Happy New Year :)
1) About Today - The National
I left the home I've lived most of my life in. I said goodbye to my room in the dark of the night, looking at its walls and thanking them. I don't know if I' gonna be back; I don't know where my life is going right now, but wherever I go, El Malecón is coming with me.
2) Good Intentions - Disclosure
Hourglass - Disclosure
Jaded - Disclosure
3) I need my girl - The National
4) Be like you - We were Evergreen
5) Good help (is so hard to find) - Death Cab for Cutie
6) Hum Hum - Mating Ritual
7) I don't think you like me - Tired Lion
8) Untitled (How does it feel) - Matt Bomer
9) You are my Sunshine - Johnny Cash
I was not with you that day, but my soul was, very much. I'm not with you, in fact I'm really far away, but my soul is with yours every day. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine: you were the light that shone first after the dark night I had managed to pull through.
10) Ahai - Twiggy Frostbite
Sometimes you can do everything right, and it still goes wrong. And it hurts! It hurts so much you feel like shutting the world out and giving up hope. Then you're washing away your tears in the sink and a song comes along, and tho it's not the best song in the world it makes you smile again when you thought you couldn't.
11) Sunshine on my Back - The National
12) I don't think she cares - White Reaper
13) Run, Lucifer - Adna
14) Caravan - Whiplash arrangement
I won't give up. I won't give up, I won't give up, I won't give up!
15) Taking all the blame - The Subways
16) The Ghosts of Beverly Drive - Death Cab for Cutie
17) Try - Nelly Furtado
I didn't want to keep up hope. I mean, what for? Last time I did it was a wreck. But at the same time I couldn't help it, the small flame amidst the wind of the darkness, smiling back at life. How not to love it? How not to admire its courage?
18) Just like them - Alpaca Sports
19) 101 - Circa Waves
20) Dangerous - Pony the Pirate
21) Bad Boyfriend - Spector
22) Do you wanna Rock - Danko Jones
23) Humiliation - The National
24) Pony - Ginuwine
25) All I ask - Adele
"Absence has a way of ossifying an idea and amplifying a legend." Jon Jacaranima
26) Victim - Win Win & Blaqstarr
27) Make you feel my love - Adele
It's good to know where your life is going, but sometimes the most important thing is to know who you'd go off-roading for.
