Soundtrack 2014 - II (Q2)

Late, but here. The eventful Q2, and its predominantly classical soundtrack.

1) I don't wanna miss a thing - Aerosmith

La Papafrita and el Pericotito were at Chacla, eating an olive-oil-infused "organic" guacamole, watching some really mess-up TV shows. Dippas were involved. Then, as usual, they started singing, and along came this song. How do you even remember this? And that? And... all? Well... guess i was listening. I love you, you know? I always did.

Yes, i always knew.

2) O quante volte - Bellini, beautifully sung by Natalie Dessay

It's been a long time since we were irreverent girls, thinking we knew better. The Sturm und Drang that felt so incredibly true and honest has made way to thicker, maybe more corrosive sorrows. It's not black and white these days, and it actually never was. And yes, your heart might me breaking, but there are still things you need to do. The world does not end because you're hurt. That doesn't mean that you don't feel, that you're an iceberg. It just means you're a woman, not a child.

3) Do it again - Robyn

It is a truth by me acknowledged that a well-lived year is in need of a Robyn song. This year, it's this one. I know, it doesn't have the subtlest or most complex lyrics, but it does have a point. "We should not be friends. We'll just do it again. If you stay around, we'll just do it again." Well, besides the obvious implications, it also has a very clear statement there: we should not be friends.

4) Caro Nome - Verdi, masterly sung by Maria Callas

You know, this is what best friends are for. Singing Caro Nome while on the city traffic jam between Salaverry and Javier Prado, me crying a bit thinking of my undying love for an imaginary old man.

5) Like a Virgin waltz - Madonna

Music is meant to be heard live, as weird as it may read from a headphones user. No, i wasn't there, and i know it doesn't feel the same, but i can imagine it. This woman is not young, and it has been a long time since she was a virgin, but she still remembers how it is to give oneself feeling so innocent and pure.

6) Himno Nacional del Perú - Don José de la Torre Ugarte

It had to be the eccentric view of an artist to make me see what deeply rooted is the bitterness my country holds against its once conquerors. But it took a quite centrist view of myself to realize i too have a deeply rooted bitterness inside. A wrong version of Nationalism? Quite improbable, but then again, perhaps. I think it's more about unhealed old wounds, and the scars they haven't yet left behind.

7) Throw me away - Korn, MTV Unplugged

Should i assume someone hears when i pray?
Love, full of hate, don't you know how i break?

8) Largo al Factotum - Rossini
Yes, i know, it's like the fourth classical song in here, but c'mon, classical music is ubiquitous, and Bugs Bunny massaging Elmer's head with all these tonics is unforgettable. I even have a whole post about it, and it's totally getting a second part.

9) Drunk in Love - Beyonce, Kanye West

Whoa! You will never need another lover! 'Cause you're a MILF and i'm mother*******! Thanks to Leandra Medine for the heads up on this song, a sexual aria about the coolness of marriage and monogamy. Yes, it can be done! This, for me, is a song of hope.

10) The Children - Game of Thrones Soundtrack

Game of Thrones elevates my quality of life. Enough said.
